The later version has the snorkel attached to outside of base with a flange built into itself. Most were tossed out in favor of open element and other designs early on. First, this air cleaner has a flat bottom on the base while later version groove in. This air cleaner would be right at home on a survivor type car just as it is.
This is a real deal survivor 6421970 dual snorkel air cleaner assembly. Don't miss this amazing example. It still wears the factory applied paint and I see no breaks or repairs to this unit. The snorkels are in very good condition with no deformations or cracks which is common on these.
It would also be a very straight forward unit to restore for show stopper. This is a very hard to find factory big block 396/427 air cleaner that was only used for 2 years on limited production high performance engines. There is also no significant corrosion, pitting, dents, or other damage. While the dimensions are same, there many differences that separate this air cleaner from its more plentiful cousins.
Shipping: The Domestic shipping cost shown is for the Continental US. The only modification I see is the breather tube has been removed and a rubber plug installed in its place as shown. The 6421970 air cleaner was factory equipment on 1965-1966 Chevrolet Full size cars with the L78 396/375HP and L72 427/425HP engines. The same air cleaner was used on 1965 Chevelle Z16 model's with the only difference being a chrome lid instead of black painted one seen here.
This air cleaner is in awesome survivor condition as shown. Finding a survivor unit like this one is nearly unheard of.
